Thanksgiving

Take note...I whipped up that apron for my mom last night. I told her it would make Thanksgiving dinner taste even yummier if she wore a cute apron while cooking! P.S. Dinner was delicious regardless!

We started the morning off bright and early per tradition! First things first, the newspaper! For as long as I can remember we've always scoured the Black Friday ads for hours and mapped out our plan of attack! This year was no exception and Emmalynn even enjoyed the bright colors in the ads, that or she was picking out what she wanted!

How is this the only picture I have of being dressed up on Thanksgiving?! She looked pretty darn cute in her tights and (huge) bow with her denim skirt and boots!

Dinner was amazing of course and super low key. I was glad we were able to spend some much needed quality time together as a family. This year we have so many blessings to be grateful for.

Movin' & Shakin'

I can't get this little girl to keep those arms still for the life of me! I probably took 20 pictures and they all look the same! Oh well, I'm capturing "life" right?!

Girlie Glue

Let me introduce you to the coolest product!

I am in LOVE!

It is all natural and it's a thousand times better than karo syrup, honey, elmer's glue, etc.

I made a bunch of felt bows the other day (thank you Felt For Less) to put on my little munchkins noggin'.

And with just a tiny (and I mean tiny) dot of Girlie Glue, these bows stay in all day!

You better believe I'm working on more accessories!

6 Months!!!

I can't believe my baby is 6 months old! Right now she weighs 8 lb 8 oz and is 21 inches long! She is hitting milestones for a 2 month old, which puts her right on track (she is 6 months actual, 2 months adjusted - meaning they go off my due date for milestones)! She is all smiles and all about that tongue! These days she likes to watch signing time while in her swing on the big tv, and watch baby Einstein in her crib on moms iPad. She still LOVES her books and of course Facetime at night with daddy when he reads to her! She is also content sitting in her bouncer looking and batting at her bird. She has developed an oral aversion (I tried so hard to fight it), so we put everything down her g-tube. She's gaining weight though and that's what's most important. Her feeding/speech therapist is helping us with some tricks! We have washed and packed up all her newborn size clothes and are finally in 0-3 month stuff! Yay for a new wardrobe! She's also in size 1 diapers! She is now sleeping a longer stretch at night (about 4-5 hours) and so we've increased her feeds during the day to 55 ml (just over 2 oz) every 3 hours. Her reflux has seemed to have gotten a little better and she spits up less! She's still a happy little munchkin and rarely gets upset. We are in awe at her progress and are so grateful for our little miracle!

Election Day

Me and the munchkin hung out together watching the {ridiculous} elections. She was happy and content in her new swing and new jammies while mommy was in shock at the outcome!

Awww

I love that when I hold Emmalynn up on my shoulder she tries to nuzzle my neck and her hand always finds its way up to my face and chin. I just love her little personality!

Facetime

This little girl ADORES her daddy! She loves to hear his voice and gets so excited when she gets to Facetime with him at bedtime! Here they were sticking tongues out at each other. He reads to her every night and she just stares at him! I think she's a daddy's girl!

Bird is the Word

Emmalynn really likes her bird on her bouncer. She will stare at it and smile at it. She has a few shirts that have birds so I always sign the word bird to her too and she just smiles and kicks. Anyways, I captured her playing in her bouncer looking at her bird today!

10/24/12

Mom of the Year!

In my defense it was super early, she only watched 15 minutes, she smiled and kicked, and it sounds like it would make her smarter because it was baby Einstein! Justification...you bet! And look, no wubbanub in her mouth, however, they are both close by!

When we leave the house...

When we leave the house...there always has to be a chauffeur so I can sit in the back and handle an emergency situation and watch her oxygen sats. Plus I need help carrying all her equipment.

When we leave the house...we try and plan more than one appointment because it's a lot of work taking Emmalynn out and I have to work around my chauffeurs schedule.

When we leave the house...we take the following: car seat, stroller, oxygen tank w/ mask, diaper bag, emergency go bag (in case I need to bag her or do an emergency trach change), suction machine (for her trach), pulse ox machine (for her oxygen sats and heart rate), feeding pump, oh and Miss Emmalynn!

When we leave the house...it's a lot of work and we usually need a nap afterwards!

She is worth it!

10/22/12

Yay! Books!

We got a fun little package on our doorstep today from Grandma Candland! Emmalynn LOVES looking at books! She smiles and kicks and could look at them forever if I let her. We only have 1 black, white, and red one, so grandma sent us a few more! Yay!

Sorry, she just finished a feed and I was about to change her diaper but she was being so cute with the book I had to hurry and record her, hence the reason she has no pants on.

That is what our freezer looks like...and we've even resorted to storing some at my grandparents house! This is what 6 months worth of pumping religiously every 2ish hours looks like!

She LOVES her Wubbanub!!!

Emmalynn has found her fist, but that is only short lived...she just wants her wubbanub!

Tummy Time

We have been practicing tummy time this morning and I think she likes it a little too much! And yes thank you for noticing, we are still rocking our jammies at 11:30 am!

5 Months

Emmalynn is 5 months now! She weighs 7 lb 3 oz! The biggest thing that happened this month is that she got to come home...and we LOVE having her home! I think she loves it too! She had a quick stay at the hospital a week after coming home due to a clogged salivary gland that got infected and got staph. But she bounced right back! Emmalynn also said goodbye to her NG feeding tube and got a g-tube (now all her feeds go right into her tummy through a little button). She slept in her tucker sling (for her reflux) while she was in the hospital but we ditched the darn thing after she let me know she wasn't a fan. Her favorite place to sleep is in her rock n' play. Grandma and Grandpa Candland drove all the way down from Utah just so they could hold her for the first time! Grandpa even sang Emmalynn to sleep! She also started wearing an HME (a little cap on her trach that is like a little humidity filter) for a few hours a day so she can practice breathing on her own. This allowed her to be mobile for the first time and go on a walk in the stroller down the halls of the NICU! She is taking less and less by mouth (darn it) of her feeds but her feeding therapist and speech therapist say let her have that pacifier so she doesn't forget how to suck. She is a very content and happy baby and we  are loving seeing her smile more!

We're Back!

Well Miss Emmalynn is back in the hospital. I know right?! She has a clogged salivary gland with a fever to boot! Poor girl can't catch a break! Such a random thing to happen too!

It all started on my birthday when she was acting kinda fussy, and then that night she felt a little warm. The next morning I was kissing her cheek and noticed it was super hard. I turned on the light and noticed it slightly red. I obviously didn't notice any swelling because hello she has chubby cheeks!  I called the pediatrician right when they opened and they said go to the ER. The one perk of having a trach baby, especially a preemie, is you walk up to the desk and they send you right back to a room.

Her ENT just laughed when he came in the room. He couldn't believe this happened to her. Because of her fever, staph, size, and history they admitted her.

They couldn't get an IV in her and she was so good about it. Micro preemies have really bad spidery veins. They ended up calling the NICU and having one of her primary care nurses do it since she new Emmalynn (and what a pain her veins are - thanks Lynda).

She was overly tired after ultrasounds on her cheeks and being poked so many times. They had me just hold her and they pushed me in the bed up to the pediatric floor.

Hooked up to those darn machines again. Oh well, they helped her get some relief and much needed sleep.

And these amazing doctors that took care of her in the NICU came to say hi! They said she looked so good in just a week of being home! We miss these friendly faces!
