One of my anniversary presents from my dear sweet hubby was a weekend getaway to his family cabin. We were only a little bit concerned about the snow but figured it wouldn't be a big deal. We can laugh about it now, but little did we know the drama that would ensue!
We pulled up to the community gate at 6:00 pm and realized the key wouldn't work. Luckily some boy scouts (from South Jordan) were heading the same way and informed us that you had to have snowmobiles to get in. They were super nice and one of the leaders graciously let us hitch a ride to the road in front of the cabin. He drove off into the night and the fun began. Let me paint you the picture.
Shelby: Sweater/Harness/Snow Shoes & Socks (yes she has doggie snow shoes)
Deneigh: Jeans/T-shirt/Tennis Shoes/Head Lamp/Jacket/Gators (borrowed from Phillip)
Phillip: Jeans/T-Shirt/Snow Shoes/Snow Pants/Winter Jacket/Gloves/Beanie/Head Lamp
4 + feet of snow that has fallen to the earth and not been touched...150 + yards to the cabin from the road...pitch black sky...a sled...a cooler...and 3 backpacks!
Any guesses on how long it took us to get to the cabin door from the gate?! 3 LONG hours! We trudged our way through the heavy snow and I can testify that it was the best workout ever because I was sore for days! We quickly got inside, turned on the heaters, and got a fire going. The water wasn't on so my brilliant husband collected snow throughout the night and melted it so we had drinking water and could use the bathroom.
We pulled the mattress from a bedroom and parked it in front of the fireplace to stay warm and finally ate dinner at 11:00 pm. We had fun watching old movies on the VCR all night!
The next day we could hear snowmobilers and Phillip got dressed and trudged back down the driveway (which in daylight seemed like nothing) and flagged down a dude to ride up and down the driveway twice so the snow was more compact.
Here is proof that the snow was as deep as I claimed. This is poor Shelby heading outside to go potty. This is the deck and the wood part is the handrail.
I tried to get to work on homework mid-morning while Phillip searched for the water valve. He found it and to our excitement it worked. But that would be too easy right?! I started hearing a whooshing of water and ran downstairs to find a literal LAKE in the kitchen! After screaming to Phillip to shut off the water I found the culprit!
{Exhibit B: The pipe with no cap in the tope of the picture - aka the culprit}

{Exhibit C: Six pots full of yucky water to hide the evidence}
After an hour of playing in said icy water and freezing to death, we did get the water going but never did get hot water (or showers, ugh). We were all pooped out which called for an afternoon movie and nap!
We eventually hit the books again. While "studying" we were distracted quite often, but can you blame us when this was the view from the upstairs loft?!
Alas I do have evidence that we studied.
{His Proof - he really is studying, he's just looking up a word in the dictionary}
{My Proof}
We ended up watching more old movies and not getting enough homework done, but the trip was relaxing (sorta) nonetheless and more than anything we have yet another Candland adventure to tell! Here are a few pictures of us hiking out Sunday afternoon. Thank goodness we had the sled...and this time it only took an hour to hike back to the car.

And to make the story even better when we got home...we were locked out!
