Texas (Part 2)

...the saga/novel continues!

Once the interview was over we went back to the hotel and packed up our stuff so we could head to Dallas (remember how our original flight was to/from Dallas?!). We were on the road again, this time for 2 hours. We decided to call our rental car company on the way and see how much it would be to return the car to Dallas instead of San Antonio (where we originally rented it from). What a laugh...they wanted to charge us $300! Nevermind...we'll call the airlines, which was actually a good thing because wouldn't you know, they cancelled our return reservation when we changed flights from Dallas to San Antonio. Luckily the lady was a huge help and we got the first available flight out on Monday instead of Sunday, but hey we had school off so it was no big deal. With the new plans in motion we still headed to Dallas because 1) we already had a hotel paid for there that night and 2) my blogging friend Amy and I were finally going to meet!

We arrived in Dallas safely and checked into our hotel in time to quickly head out again for dinner with the Williams. I was kinda nervous because we've only been blogging friends for 2ish years (although I think I've stalked her longer than she knows), but I knew we had practically everything in common and we're pretty much twins separated at birth! We went to Pappasitos who by the way have the most sinful chicken fajitas, hands down!

We had so much fun talking and our husbands thought it was funny that she and I were so similar (I am not being dramatic either)! They ended up inviting us over to their adorable home where I got tosee all of her creativity in person! The night got away from us and after talking about everything under the sun we finally left around 1:30am! I hope Phillip gets accepted at ACU because living 2 hours from them would be a blast!

Sunday, Valentines Day! We got a slower start because we weren't in a hurry but we couldn't go all the way to Texas and not have a steak. We took the recommendations and went to Saltgrass where we split a steak since we were on a budget (you'd think we asked the guy to cut off our right arms - he was so confused and couldn't understand why we were sharing). It was really good and we're glad we went!

We decided on our drive down to San Antonio we'd stop off in Austin to see the State Capitol, which was cool and really fun to visit, but it was getting dark so we didn't get a lot of pictures.

Phillip called our rental car company and asked what it would be to extend another day so we could hit the Alamo and Riverwalk on Monday since our flight didn't leave until 6:30. They told us 12 bucks so we headed straight there to take care of that. As luck would have it, our car was barely over their 30,000 mile rule so instead of keeping that same car, they made us return it. Well she began the transaction but informed me if I extended it through my original 3rd party reservation (Hotwire) it would be $176 dollars. FOR A DAY?! So I asked what it would cost to go directly through them and she told me $12 (which she told Phillip) but that they would put a $400 hold on our debit card! Are they nuts?! They already put a $200 hold on our card, plus the two hotels we stayed at each put a $100 hold so we were tapped out and using cash only! They wouldn't accept a card over the phone so we were stranded. Our only option was to take the shuttle back to the airport and hop on the shuttle that would take us to our hotel for the night. Come to find out, the hotel wasn't an airport one and it was downtown, which was a $20 cab ride (which would mean another $20 cab ride back). No thank you, we are poor starving college students who have spent every dime trying to get Phillip into grad school...which better pan out because we are never going back to Texas, haha! So for our romantic Valentines Day dinner we shared a banana and a bag of Swedish Fish and spent the evening at the airport.

Philip's parents saved the day and found us an amazing airport hotel that had a comfy bed, a flat screen tv, and made to order breakfast (I'm talking omelets, hashbrowns, biscuits & gravy, etc).

Monday morning we enjoyed the yummy breakfast and even stole extra bagels, yogurt, and fruit for our lunch (remember I said we were poor). After being forced to check out by 2:00 we spent the remainder of the afternoon in their lobby doing homework, boring I know. We went back to the airport, which frankly I was getting sick of and got checked in only to find out that of course our flight was delayed!

We eventually made it to Utah just after midnight! We got our car out of long term parking and headed home. Oh wait...the story doesn't end there! The weather had to give us a grand finale! It took us almost an hour longer than usual to get home because the fog was the worst fog I've ever been in! I could barely see the lines in front of me. We did make it though and crawled into our comfortable bed at about 3:30am.

And that friends...was Texas. The good, the bad, and the ugly! Like I said, if ACU doesn't accept him....then we're never going back to Texas!

The End!
